being overweight does not necessarily mean that your obese. a lot of factors contribute to a person's overall weight, such as bone & muscle density/mass. obese is referred to someone who has a lot of body fat deposits. a bodybuilder, who weighs in at 200lbs and is 5' 9" tall, may attribute most of his/her weight to his/her lean muscle mass.

yes tama si theveed, all types of muscle is heavier than fat... pero water muscle is heavier than fiber muscle... kaya pwedeng masmalaki ka pero masmagaan pero muscular ka at walang fats tulad nun isang masmaliit na masmabigat...
i think masmaganda ang bodyfat percentage yun bibilangin... yun akin dati 5.5-7.5% lang eh... ngayon ata 15-20% kasi nagpabulk ako... dati kasi lampayatot ako before mag-gym...
5-7% is barely survivable pare hehe... Pro bodybuilders during contest days drop to that range, and they experience EXTREME cramping and nausea. I think most ectomorphs hover around the 12-15% range. 5-7% is nearly impossible to sustain for over a few days.
2-3 years akong ganyan... ectomorph kasi ako tapos twice a day lang ako nakakakain... gulat nga prof ko sa PE eh... pero after ilan months (6-8) ng gym + supplements pati 6x a day na kain, naging 15% na... grabe kung walang gatorade siguro nagpassout na ako when playing tennis and basketball grabe ang payat ko talaga nun...
may friend ako na bakla, 20-22 lang yun waistline niya... sobrang payat... less than 7% ata yun eh...

diba soccer players 2% lang ata..."
IMPOSSIBLE dude. Humans need at least 3% to stay alive... Pro bodybuilders you see during contests still have around 3-5% bodyfat. There's NO WAY that a living person can maintain (ie live with) 5% BF or less unless he/she has a serious illness...
Sobrang impossible 2% na athlete.
Just because someone is thin doesn't mean he/she has a low BF%. Don't forget that it's a percentage. Meaning, if your friend is 120lbs, having merely 12 pounds of fat will equate to a 10% BF%, on the other hand, if a 200lb person has 10% BF, he'll look much fatter than the 120lb guy since he has 20lbs of fat. Gets?
If you have less than 5% bodyfat, you won't even be able to perform daily tasks for a whole day.
What method do you use for BF measurements right now btw? (I wonder if may calipers mga FF gyms)

From a health site:
Men should aim for 11-17% bodyfat for optimal health. 18-20% bodyfat is moderate, and more than 25% is clearly obese. Women carry a higher percentage of bodyfat. Their optimal range is 19-22%. Moderate is 23-30%, and over 30% is obese. But having too little bodyfat can also be unhealthy and dangerous. For men, 3% or less is considered a danger zone, and for women, it’s anything below 11%. Women can have serious side effects from being underweight, for example, irregularity or cessation of their monthly cycles.
From AHA
It is important to remember that some minimal amount of body fat is essential to maintain life processes - proper functioning of the endocrine and nervous systems depend on a certain amount of bodyfat. Again, the estimates vary, but 3-5% for men and 8-11% for women are generally accepted as the lowest levels that will sustain life. It is not recommended that people keep their bodyfat this low, but it does give one an idea of the lower bound.
This is a good site to learn how to use a BF Caliper. I have a digital one (just arrived, but I haven't opened it yet)
VW: Actually kanya-kanya yan eh, if you're naturally thick skinned and have larger amount of fat cells (genetics), you'll need a lower BF% for your abs to show through. Ectos shouldn't have this problem as most ectos show good abs with 10% BF range. Of course, doing ab exercises bulges the rectus abdominis muscles and makes them show through better under the skin.
