Newbie Introduction: adrktemplar

Hi guys!

Just signed in the forums after browsing some of the posts here. Saw the link while browsing for "megamass"+"side effects" in Google. Ganun ka-effective ang Google! hehehe

Introduction

Anyway, for an introduction of myself. I'm 5' 5" tall male with a really active metabolism so you could just imagine how skinny I am. My current weight is 118lbs, 17lbs shy of the 135lbs prescribed body weight for my height. I'm in the I.T. field so my lifestyle is basically sedentary, no sports or any physical activity. Just walking.

I had recently signed up in one of the commercial gym clubs after our company was offered a very tempting package. I'm not new in strength training 'coz during my early college days I was able to train for a few months pero natigil kasi na-busy na ako with school and then work afterwards. And I missed it a lot! Acc. sa gym instructor before, since weight gain naman daw ako, walang bawal kainin except wag magpuyat, mag-inom at mag-yosi.

My primary goals for signing up with the gym are:
1. to gain weight
2. to have exercise

Yung having a nice figure so that I won't look lousy on clothes, bonus na lang yun. OK na sa kin basta proportioned lang katawan ko, kahit nde yung 'Batista' or 'The Rock' look.

Eating Habits

Basically, I eat like any middle-aged Filipino male. I'm a bit conscious though on my cholesterol intake and I refrain as much as possible from eating sweets since I easily get my tonsils irritated plus we have a history of diabetes.

Questions

As I've said, nice to know na merong PBFB board na pinoy na pinoy at pdeng mag-post ng questions ang mga newbies. PT's services are expensive so with PBFB around, it's really going to be a big help.

For my questions:
1. Totoo ba yung, walang bawal akong kainin? Could I just continue with my eating habits?

2. I've read in the boards about ON, PWO shake (post-workout ba meaning nun?) and supplements. Do I really need them if I just want to be proportioned and not the bulgy type?

3. I've noticed that on my 1st and 2nd sessions, my throat hurts, like a sore throat. I feel that I'm doing it wrong on how I breath during workouts and I fear that I might develop goither due to this. Is it normal? What's the proper breathing during workouts?

Sensya na po sa sobrang daming tanong.

first of all, welcome to the board! congratulations on your decision to stay healthy!

seems to me that you're an ectomorph. how old are you, if you don't mind me asking? middle-aged, mga 40ish?

i envy you ectos, ksi you get to see your ripped abs.

anyway, to answer your q's..

1. its not true that you can eat whatever you want. i know a couple of ectos that have high blood pressure, are diabetic, have high uric acid levels. always choose healthy foods. continue with your current appetite, just divert it into taking high quality protein(lean meat sources), carbs(veggies), vitamin sources(fruits.) the other restrictions that your gym instructor mentioned are acceptable (wag magpuyat, mag-inom, mag-yosi.) oversleeping is also bad for your health.

2. imo, yes. you won't get huge like batista, or the rock, by drinking a lot of protein shake alone. besides those guys trained for years to get their bodies like that (with the help of other drugs din.) you will, however, gain a considerable amount of muscle mass.. which is good ksi your goal is gaining weight. a lot of ecto's here take their PWO drink. i suggest you read the sticky about "The window of opportunity."

3. baka naman you're grunting, instead of breathing kaya masakit sa throat. or baka you're snorting! hehe. inhale on the negatives(@ the beginning of the exercise,) and exhale on the positives (on the contractions.) inhale - nose, exhale - mouth. some inhale from mouth & nose, tapos @ the positives they hold their breath halfway through before exhaling. some exhale very slowly. try mo kung saan ka comfortable.

hth.

Thanks! Actually, tagal ko na gusto ulit mag-gym kaya lang magastos. Got my cholesterol test 3 months ago and it's above normal! Advice from doctor: more exercise, less of the animal fat. Hence, my coming back to the gym.

32. Yup. I'm an ectomorph. Since birth. heheheh Ripped abs? What do you mean? Kasi I remember it's much easier for endomorphs kasi they got the muscles/fat already. They only need to sculpt/shape it. Unlike us, we need to gain mass pa.

Just read the article. Thanks for leading me to it. So I guess VW has a new prospective customer?

Yup. I'm familiar with the inhale at the negatives then slowly exhale during the positives. Kaya lang, I have a tendency na ipitin ang hininga ko. So lately, nde ko na iniipit. Inhale through the nose then immediately exhale through the mouth.

Thanks dude for answering my questions.

Welcome to the club.I'm an ectomorph just like you.Had been thin allthroughout my high school and college days.Want to gain QUALITY weight? It's all about calories.Increase your calories intake but that does'nt mean eating anything that's edible.Add fruits to your daily diet. 4 servings(around 2 small Delmonte fruit cups) a day will be a good start. Also don't miss on your in between meals(snacks).Wheat bread with cottage cheese will be fine.Peanut butter(low fat variety)is also good with your wheat bread. At first counting calories is kinda frustrating, but if you get used to it,then more or less you will know how much you should be consuming daily.

Regarding eggs,it's ok to consume a yolk for every 4 eggs. But don't overdo it,I guess everything in excess is also not good.

To get nice abs,it's removing the fat over the abdominal muscles to make it look ripped.Sounds easy?Nah....

Speaking of cottage cheese, where can I buy it? What brand is available in our local market today?

1. Eat anything that can't outrun you. Eat like a madman. If you want to weigh 135 lbs you gotta eat like a 135 pound man.

2. Whey protein is just food in liquid (powder) form. No magical properties just absorbed faster which is optimal post-workout.

Proportioned or buldgy type? this is affected by your workout and overall diet.
You dont become a ronnie coleman overnight. Specially without steroids.

3. I have no idea what's causing your sore throat. Drink lots of water during your workout.
