I got my ZMA from a good friend of mine that just came back from the US.
I started taking it on Monday (start of my cut). Since I've been having sleeping problems the past week (holyweek rush), I was wondering if it can really help.
2 days so far and honestly, I really slept well. Not like I've been drugged or anything hehe, I still wake up almost instantly when my baby boy cries and asks for his milk. But I do fall back to sleep really fast and whole night deep sleep talaga.
It's too early to tell how it helps my recovery, since I've only started working out again yesterday (monday)...
I got ON's ZMA btw. I only take 2 caps instead of the recommended 3 caps for adult male... Kuripot eh... hehe...
i think many people need that ZMA here. I dunno but if Im working out more, I cant sleep well. I tend to wake up feeling tired and dizzy. The only time I remember when I had a good night sleep was three weeks ago when I had a back massage with eucalyptus oil.
Although I'll be researching this in a while, just want to ask your views about individual minerals guys. I cant find ZMA at GNC so I was thinking of taking the stack individually. They have Zinc-50mg, Magnesium -200 mg and B-Complex 100 (100mg every B Vitamin), and costs only about 500 pesos for every 60 tabs. Do you think this will have the same effect as ZMA (Zinc and Magnesium in Aspartate Form) ?
Last night, I was just taking Enervon with Zinc (20mg Zinc) before Sleep (Along with L-Glutamine and Flax Seed Oil), first time pa lang (and a Celestial Seasoning Sleepytime Tea) and well, I can say that it was a good night sleep. I have to go to the CR five times though coz diuretic talaga 'tong tea but now Im feeling really fresh. I dunno if it was the Zinc that made the most difference...
Zinc and Magnesium costs about 500 each for 60 capsules. They have all sorts of individual vitamin and mineral, even individual B vitamins... If we buy all of those, para na rin tayong nag re-retail ng supplements sa bahay. hehehe
So far, marami talaga ang nagsasabi na this stack helps in sleeping. Hmmm....
Edit:
I was researching today regarding this and I found out that Zinc is better absorbed if bound with amino (such as in the form aspartate), while Magnesium is better absorbed in organic form (such as Magnesium Oxide or Magnesium Aspartate). Vit. B-6 further enhances the absorption of magnesium. The ratio used by the proponents of ZMA is Zinc=30mg, Mag=450mg and B6-11mg. It is not known though if a different ratio still provides the same benefit.
I realize that this supplement has several functions, but it is marketed as a HORMONE BOOSTER.Is it the primary function of ZMA?By the way I got mine locally ON brand.I think the price is reasonable.
AFAIK, ZMA boosts serotonin and testosterone... That's why we feel weel rested and very manly in the morning (hehe one of the effects lang of the wonderful testosterone hormone)
