Raw Oatmeal???

I've read in some forums that oatmeal can be eaten raw and/or mixed with tuna or whatever... never tried it though... is this for real, i mean "RAW" oats?

yup, its true.

i take -

morning
oats + protein powder + skimmed milk + water all in a blender. then lagok.

snack
oats + water taken with a can of tuna(in brine water)

nakakaubos ako nang 500g++ of oats in a week. haven't been cooking them or sticking them in the microwave for months now.

as for the taste.. sanay na ko. dati dry ko sya kinakain, straight out of the container, pero mahirap lumunok so hinahalo ko na sa tubig palagi. pero di pa din sya cooked.

Same here... Love oats, especially rolled oats na raw hehe...

There's no danger of doing it (other than choking siguro hehe), if you can get used to the texture, taste (or the lack of it)... .

Oats are king when it comes to complex carbs, protein and low fat meal na nakakabusog :D

how is oatmeal compared to rice in terms of carb

i usually eat 5 spoons every morning but doesn't get full so i still choose rice over it.

5 spoonfuls is very little hehe that's probably less than 100g.

Oats are more complex than white rice, less than full grain brown rice. It's calorie packed, high in protein, no cholesterol and slow burning. The last factor is the important one whether you're bulking or cutting since oats burns slowly and will not spike insulin therefore the carbs will be used for energy and will not be stored as fat.

Oats have really high protein count for a complex carb, average of 3-4 grams per 30grams... 1 cup (around 200g) have more than 15g of protein in it. If you eat some chicken with it, you'll get 70% of essential aminos your body needs for muscle recuperation.

yup, just go up gradually para di ka mabigla. Don't use raw eggs sa shake, salmonella dude, serious food poisoning...

Since you're trying to lose weight, take this mix only in the morning up to early afternoon, try to cycle off carbs as the day wears off.

You might wanna try the ff:

1 cup milk (200ml) or soy milk
2 ice cubes
1/2 cup oats
1 banana

I suggest you make more so that you can drink some of it as pre-meal snacks. I assume you've read the diet articles already. So eat 5-8 times a day instead of 3 large meals.

Just wondering why you eat it raw.Does cooking lessen it's quality(content)?Seriously guys coz I've been eating slow cooking type of oatmeal for a long time and if you say that raw oatmeal is better,I will definitely make that shift.Or is it a matter of preferance?

It's not better, no proof on that, but i dont like eating cooked O.M. since it's hard to eat (mainit, bland, etc), I prefer it being chewy and besides, it's easier to just gulp it down.

Your whey doesn't dissolve in hot mixture as well.

i tried to mix cooked oats with my protein powder(egg) before, hoping for a champorado type meal, pero pangit ang consistency.

sabi kasi ng sister ko may mga certain powder mixtures daw na hindi pwede sa mainit na liquid... wag niyo ihalo din ang protein sa hot water kasi diba nababawasan protein content nun...
