I just started taking Designer Whey with glycerlean. Any comments on this product? I noticed my chest area (heart) feels "tender". Is this bad? Other than that I feel fine.
Are you a newbie in weight lifting? If so, you're just experiencing DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) which is normal since your muscle isn't used to the stress your workout provided. Give it a couple of days rest and it'll subside. Taking Vitamin C and protein will aid its recuperation.
Designer Whey is probably one of the first and well known whey protein brands available. Nothing wrong with it.
usually, a day after your workout, if it hurts, then the workout must be effective
this might be a helpful comparison on protein supplements...
a glass of designerwhey protein has 18 grams of protein and gives you 90 calories, with 15 calories from fat
3 hard boiled egg white has around 24 grams of protein and gives you 120 calories, and 0 calories from fat
for those tight on the budget, you can achieve the same protein intake and burn that extra 30 calories by doing 3 minutes on a treadmill :), and you get less fat from the egg white too
Thanks for replying. Actually it's my heart that feels funny. Not the chest muscles. Kind of like I can feel the absorption itself a few minutes after taking in the supplement. So what I do is take one scoop in the morning, 2 in the afternoon and 1 again before sleeping. Max recommended is 3 scoops. I'm planning on throwing in creatine as well but I'm not sure if my body can take it. I take vitamin C everyday too. Given this product is 100% safe, should I take in the max "dosage"? Believe me when I say I really need the extra pounds
Pherry: Eggs are king of tipid protein :D :D :D Sana may pasteurized egg whites din dito. Although whey is absorbed 3-4x faster than egg protein, which is beneficial post-workout recovery.
Noobia: Suggestion ko skip the creatine first, you have to know what each supplement does and how it affects you before buying, otherwise sayang lang. I sincerely doubt that any of your experiences (such as "heart feels funny" "absorption is felt" etc) is psychological. Taking one or two scoops of whey makes no difference as eating a slab of beef or 4 egg whites, it's just protein in liquid form, nothing more.
The "dosage" that you mentioned with DW is not a "dosage" like a drug but a serving size. What they're trying to say is that 3 scoops is approximately 50grams of protein. Your body may not be able to absorb the 50 grams of protein efficiently and it'll just go to waste (fat). Note that 3 scoops also means 90grams of fat.
If you need extra pounds, you need to fix your diet to gain mass. Supplements will fill in the void after you get your diet fixed up.
remember those dosages are based on AMERICANS kaya alalay ka lang... i get those heart burns too yung parang mahahearth attack ang feeling...overdose ata yan sa protein pre... kaya iniwasan ko muna for now :D hope this helps....

may naniniwala pa din pala sa "yung dosage na yan eh american." This is just too funny and simply not true. A required supplementation of "1 gram of protein per pound of body weight" is universal. 7-feet in the east is also 7-feet on the west. Hindi ko pa yata naririnig ang OD sa protein.

you beat me to it theveed. Although egg and whey differs in protein contents, you have to take into account the TIMING for those supplements to be absorbed.
Karding, I agree with the west is the same with east thing. I do believe bryboy and I get the same "heart burn" feeling, well atleast maybe because I'm a newbie to taking suplpements. I just started taking this supplement this past Sunday so maybe my body is still adjusting to the extra protein intake, and other ingredients in the shake. (There ARE other ingredients aside from protein) I've done some research and I havn't found anything negative (overdose or the like).
Noobia: You must understand what causes heartburn. When your digestive system couldn't digest the amount (or size) of food you consumed, too much stomach acid is released to attempt to burn the food hence you get acid reflux. So it's not the supplement's fault. Eating too much too fast with regular food will give you the same sensation... In other words "sinisikmura"...
Your stomach wouldn't care if you ingested carb, protein or fat. It does require more effort to break down complex food sources such as complex carb, fiber, casein and lactose, etc. Again, this is not supplement dependent.
you take glycerlean before sleeping... time-release kasi siya...
ang kailangan mo before and after workout is WHEY protein... yun regular lang...
base on my experience, and ng mga friends. wala sa amin nagkaroon ng substantial gains nun gumamit kami ng designer whey. compared to nitrotech, optimum, champion, parang inferior ang designer. gylcerlean is a different thing kasi counter-part niya nitro-tech nighttime... dont know pa which is better, i have to use it pa... kasi yun iba 3-months na sila nagdesigner whey tapos okay naman diet and workout pero ang bagal compared sa optimum which is cheaper...
oh i forgot... unlike, creatine, fat burners, etc. wala pa pong namamatay sa protein... pagover ka sa protein iihi mo lang... medyo wag mo lang gawin habitual kasi kawawa kidney mo...
i recommend:
1 serving during breakfast, 1 serving of whey protein before workout, another 1 serving after workout, and take 1 serving of glycerlean before sleeping.

Need to see studies to justify this statement. I've yet to encounter such incidents with protein and creatine (refer to the Creatine FAQ in the Articles section)

ive heard na may namatay dito sa creatine... around 4 na this year... kwento lang nun blockmate ko... 800grams daw tinake sa isang buwan... siyempre hindi ako sure... kwento lang eh
theveed mentioned some time ago that those people who dies on creatine did not take the recommended water intake...I agree. And that same people failed to cycle the creatine, they continously take creatine for more than 8 weeks. Alam mo na, na addik sa creatine at natakot umimpis ang katawan (misconception) kaya take ng take ng creatine.
